Nowruz
So tonight I'm out for a walk, head over to my local Persian market... wanted to check to see if fresh almonds were in season yet... that will be another post when they are!
I noticed there was a huge tank filled with gold fish and people lined up to get some... peculiar. So then I head over to another Persian market and again gold fish and people lined up to get some. I ask one of the patrons what this whole gold fish thing was about. I find out this Friday is Nowruz, which is their New Year (happens around the first day of spring). And its tradition to have gold fish (among other things) to symbolize the New Year, and renewal and growth.
